That might be two things:
Needing to be the root user to do the mount.
The files are owned by a different user on the other side of the
network. It goes by the numerical user id, not the name. Try "ls -n"
on both sides, see if you get the same numbers where your usename would
usually be.
I used in /etc/exports the option no_root_squash and this does it.
