If you configure variables other than LANG in /etc/sysconfig/i18n such
as LC_COLLATE, etc., they will not be propagated into your gdm invoked X
session. People who only set the LANG variable, won't notice this
problem AFAIK.

I'm going to continue troubleshooting and see if I can determine the
root cause, although I believe it is probably a glitch in the
xorg-x11-xinit startup scripts.
If anyone else can reproduce this, please add comments to the bug report.
