And a few hours later:

[root@suspishus ~]# smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda|grep Load_Cycle
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0012 099 099 000 Old_age Always - 16736

During this time, I've read a few e-mails, looked at a few webpages,
left the computer idling for quite a fair amount of time.

The head's cycled a around 500 times since three hours and forty-five
minutes ago, and it's been running off mains power (so not battery save
features should have been doing their thing).

I think this issue is far from trivial, nor sorted out.

If anyone wants more technical information, tell me what to provide. If
anyone has some things to mitigate the problem, I'm all ears.
