Taking another aproach...

I've loaded LINUX on to another hard drive hoping to be able to access the data on the drive without xwindows. Now find that although the various partitions are present, I don't have the necessary access to mount them - even as root.

Any suggestions? Please let me have them.

Cheers
John.

FWIW....

Booting to init 3 and going a

yum groupupdate "X Window System"

may get you up and operational.

If you use NetworkManager you don't get the network brought up until
you log into the GUI, do you? Without a network connection, yum is a
little less useful. It just means that in addition to getting X
working, John may need to futz around with his network to bring it up.

It seems he doesn't have any network issues. I think it is just my penchant
for running this sort of stuff from level 3.
