Supposedly the newest ATI proprietary fglrx will work with that chip; I don't know (my 640m has the built-in intel video, which works quite well, even with Beryl). Not as fast, but it is solid. What's odd is that FC6 worked. Of course, fglrx won't do AIGLX yet, so....
