Mind elaborating a little more? I don't know how to reinstall
packages from the rescue cd.
I don't have pete's problem, but I would like to know how to do this
before disaster strikes :)

It appears then that your rescue devise is the F7 DVD. Then I guess
you can get to the rpm files and install them to the problem system. Is
this correct?
