I made a couple of errors and rebooted too many times but now my /home directory is in another partition :-) I made a big error and copied /home/karl/ to the new partition and when I tried to load /home/karl in fstab it didn't work. I then got rid of home and just have /karl in the new partition.

You get rid of /home by using # mv karl .. and that puts it down next to /home and I removed /home and /lost-found and now it is working fine.
