AFAIK, IMAP 'properly' has exactly one root folder, the INBOX. You have
two options:

i. move Family, Finance, etc to subfolders of INBOX (filesystem names
'~/Maildir/.INBOX.Family/{cur,new,tmp}')

ii. look at using IMAP namespaces http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces
