I use a Logitech trackball myself; it's the variety where you roll the ball 
with your thumb.  I much prefer that.

In fact, I would be a happy camper if I can get F7 to just disable the 
touchpad, but only if an external mouse device (like my trackball) is plugged 
in.  There are, after all, times when I don't use the trackball, mostly for 
quick things where I just unpack the laptop by itself and not with the normal 
accessories (currently the trackball and a Seagate FreeAgentGo 160 drive).
