FWIW I just tried NetworkManager with my WPA network for the first time
in a while and it did a great job on iwl3945 from kernel
2.6.23-0.74.rc2.git1.fc8. This is also mac80211-based so I would
definitely try it.

I started the NetworkManager service and ran nm-tool as my normal user.
Very nice! It did not overwrite my old
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf either.

BTW this just flew by

queued by Michael will require
a new version of fwcutter, now called b43-fwcutter, and a new extraction
of your firmware. ...''
