I have a Brother MFC-7820N that is network connected, and it works
fine - printing, scanning, and FAX. You don't get the fancy control
panel that you get in Windows that will let you do remote copies,
but it would not be too hard to set up something like that is I
thought I would use it... (Scan an image with sane, and sent it to
the printer, as a shell script launched by an icon on the desktop.)
I have not tried it for receiving a FAX. It is also susposed to work
when connected to a USB port, but I have not tried it.

You can download the drivers from Brother, or use the CUPS driver
for printing. The Brother drivers are both a FAX and print driver
for CUPS, and a scanner definition for SANE.
