I'm new to Fedora but I have a background in FreeBSD. I am trying to learn the Linux world... I saw in the archives a recent post about problems with getting F7 to run on a Dell Inspiron E530. I am having similar problems. I am summarizing last night's work with both the FC7 Live CD and the FC7 ISO DVD. Tried the ISO DVD first. Install process hung at the same place the other poster described, "Loading something-piix".
More details please. When you put the DVD in your DVD devise and re-boot the computer did the DVD take over and run? Did you see a screen that gives you a lot of F1, F,F3 things to click on? Did you select to just hit Enter?

Sorry I didn't write it down. After some poking around I discovered that this installer, like FreeBSD has the multiple screens so you can get to the detailed log. It looks to me like it's not finding a driver it needs. From some other reading I have surmised that the installer can't find my DVD drive. This is odd since the machine booted from the DVD and got me through GRUB to here. Also, the keyboard was acting strangely. I'm using the Dell-supplied USB keyboard. Every keystroke gets doubled, which makes using the menu frustrating. Finally I gave up on the ISO and booted the Live CD. It booted and ran fine from RAM. I have 2 GB of RAM on my system. The problem here was that the Live CD image couldn't find the Ethernet controller! I played around and discovered that I have the Intel chipset supported by the 'e100' driver. The thing just doesn't respond. That's where I sit. I did respond to a bug report in bugzilla along these lines. Has anyone had success with this box? Do I need newer discs than the ones that were available around a week ago? Thanks for any help! Mike Harpe, N4PLE
