Aha!  The old "no data on the disc" ploy...

There's a couple of commands really useful for determining that sort of
thing, if you can't tell just by looking at the disc:  "lsdvd" and 
"dvd+rw-mediainfo".  You'll probably have to install one or both of
them, I don't think they're defaults.

Using FC 4, 5, 6 & 7, plus CentOS 5.  Today, it's FC7.
