I have this bookmark and maybe use full for wireless references:
http://ralink.rapla.net/ list of ralink chipset, by now I think ralink
is the most supported chipset for GNU/Linux.
Atheros chipset is OK, but last time I read at madwifi page, the USB
connection not yet supported.
