I poked about a bit more, and tried commenting out the "cd" line in /etc/auto.misc, rebooted, but the problem was still there. Often fixes are very simple things, and I decided to look at KDE's KsCD. By default it puts an icon in the taskbar. Simply right clicking on the icon, and quitting KsCD has stopped the messages, as you can see below. I then open KsCD to change the default preferences, so that an icon for KsCD is not put on the taskbar, and the messages start again at 17:27:46. After editing the preferences I close KsCD, and the messages stop at 17:29:53. I'm posting this from FC2, and KsCD has an icon in the taskbar there, but no odd messages. I will also fire up FC5, and FC6 to see if there any odd messages which appear to be associated KsCD's icon being in the taskbar. It does seem odd though, that on Fedora 7's KDE, KsCD's icon in the taskbar is posting messages every second, complaining that there is no CDROM in the drive. Thanks for your interest, and reply.
