Notice that the following is with Gnome, I know 2 ways:

	a) Speeder--> just by pressing the ImpPt-PetSis key (above the F10 key
or around..). This will catch the whole screen.
	b) Opening a terminal and calling the command gnome-panel-screenshot.
Use the --help for displaying options. Two of them will be to you
specially useful (at least they are usually for me..): --window, when
you want to catch only the content of a pointed window (a terminal,
etc..) and --delay=seconds, when you need to catch something several
seconds after..
