Running qemu as root hangs host OS ( F7 )

Host:
$ uname -rmiv
2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 #1 SMP Tue Jun 12 14:56:37 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64

I have installed win2k as a guest OS using the instructions in here:

http://kvm.qumranet.com/kvmwiki/HOWTO

I did all of the above as non-root, and all works except for the
warning that I get on the console:

Could not configure '/dev/rtc' to have a 1024 Hz timer. This is not a fatal
error, but for better emulation accuracy either use a 2.6 host Linux kernel or
type 'echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq' as root.

Also, the clock in the guest OS slowly drifts away / delayed, probably
as a result of the above.

Now if :
1) I run qemu ( as above ) via sudo or as root ... or
2) type 'echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq' as root, but
then run qemu as non-root

In both instances, the host OS ( F7 ) completely hangs. The only way I
could run qemu is as non-root.

Any ideas ?

John
