"Headless" in the classic sense means no video card and probably no keyboard/mouse.

In olden times -- pre-X, you brought up your Unix system with a "glass teletype" (if not a real mechanical Teletype!) attached to the serial port.  Tough luck, nowadays, if you don't have a serial port!
