Fedora7 and SATA performance

Hi List;

I have Fedora7 on a laptop (an IBM thinkpad Z60m) with a SATA drive. With FC5 
I had to do something to the effect of : 
load the libata module and add combined_mode=libata

I get better performance with Fedora7 than the stock FC5 but not as good as 
FC5 in combined_mode. Do I need to (is there even an option) run Fedora7 in 
combined_mode as well?
