This sounds about my speed.  It seems, generally, that good, quality
printers work with linux ok, but I'm looking for a budget model and
would've been happy with a generic inkjet.

Years ago, I remember that brother printers were notable for being
"straight through", which always seemed such a simple solution to
paper jams...
