Is this a setting I could change?
Or is there some bug in my system?
The reason I suspect a bug is that when I restart the machine
I always get a message from Firefox saying that the last session
ended improperly, and asking me if I want to resume the last session
or start a new session.
Try hitting a key on the keyboard once the screen blanks. This used
to work in FC6, but I haven't tried it lately. The behavior is most
likely a result of the "quiet" option specified at boot up.
Alternatively you could remove that option when booting.
As to the firefox issue: Maybe not enough time elapses between the
"shutting down..." and the "killing..." events at shutdown.
Bob...
Sorry about the self-reply.
I did a quick test.
Pressing a key at shutdown does not turn on the shut down messages, but
removing the "quiet" option from the kernel command line does.
