-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Solution found for javadoc upgrade error From: Jochim Rolf Selzer <jselzer@xxxxxx> To: paul.lemmons@xxxxxxxxx Date: 06/12/2007 10:49 AM
I found the same solution to the javadoc problem. Thanks, though, for the reply.Hi Paul, after a second usage of my Google brain extension, here is the solution: The complete error message reads: /usr/share/javadoc/java: rename failed - is a directory. This rang some bells in my brain. I moved the directory to java_bak, ran yum upgrade again and now it went through without complaining. By the way: Did you also experience several severe bugs when running the upgrade from FC6 to F7? It cost me 2 days until I was able to upgrade my machine at all. I got the impression the Fedora guys desperately wanted to have the new release ready for the Linux fair and skipped some important QA phases. F7 is the first Fedora I cannot advise to install. Kind regards Jochim
As for the upgrade I ran into some very minor problems but over all have been pleased. I upgraded one machine via the DVD and another via yum and both are operating perfectly.
I don't know that I would recommend *not* going to F7. Like any upgrade on the bleeding edge, there are likely to be some minor issues. That is the choice we made by choosing Fedora over Ubuntu. Personally, I think F7 was cleaner than FC6. It was certainly faster. In FC6 it took hours to upgrade and we had the problem with the kernel headers being mismatched with the kernel. We fixed it and moved on and forgot. When F8 comes out these little problems will also have been fixed and forgotten and we will complain about the new ones. It is the Fedorian circle of life.
