Have you tried the new virt & xen stuff from the testing repo?
$ sudo yum --enable updates-testing update libvirt* python-virt* virt* xen* kernel-xen*

I think you can boot into a normal (non-xen) kernel and install vmware.
There is a howto on howtoforge.org.
