I have had this problem myself. I believe it has to do with Anaconda getting confused when doing an upgrade. It was a simple fix. At the grub> prompt I did root (hd0,0) followed by setup (hd0). That fixed the problem. I have yet to have an "upgrade" go without some sort of problem.
