I get this too on my HP nx6325 I find that if I switch to another console, login as root, init 3 and then init 5 it will work. But I have to do this every time I boot. JDL On 08/06/07, Kanwar Ranbir Sandhu <m3freak@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Hi List, Fedora 7 is totally busted for me. I cry. The problem I'm having is that when I login to my laptop, my gnome session usually locks up. When I look at my process list, I can see that only some of the usual gnome session processes have started. Other times, it looks like everything started (i.e. in terms of running processes), but the panels don't start complete (missing launchers, applets, etc.). Sometimes gnome appears to have started properly, but as soon as I try to launch an app, the panels lock up again, and slowly the desktop becomes unusable again. I have to kill X several times before the freaking gnome session starts correctly. Even then, there's no guarantee it will stay running because a few times gnome has locked up after a few minutes of use. Today when I booted the machine, X refused to start up. I looked in the log, and I saw backtraces: X had crashed out. WTH?! Just the day before it was starting okay. I eventually managed to get X to start by changing the driver from "intel" to "vesa", but the screen was all messed up because I couldn't get the proper res (1680x1050). I've tried fresh installations of both the x86_64 and i386 versions on my brand new HP nx7400 Core 2 DUO laptop. In fact, I _just_ completed an install of the i386 version (PXE installs in each case), and I'm having the same damn problem - gnome doesn't start properly. I wasted my evening getting this shit installed. I have to go back to Fedora Core 6 - I need this laptop for work.
