But it *might* be that tweaking with the brightness and contrast, de-noising an image, etc., can help OCR. You'd want to find some OCR software which has advice in their docs about what you can do.
Thanks, Tim. I have found OCRopus: http://code.google.com/p/ocropus/ but unfortunately found no rpm for Fedora. Paul
