The Core 2 Duo is a 64-bit "EM64T" CPU, so x86_64 will work on it.

And to be sure, download just x86_64 boot.iso [<10MB] burn it and bootit. If the kernel is not suitable for the machine it will tell you, andyou haven't wasted a dvd download.
