I've been using audacity from the Fedora repo on my FC5 system since a
year ago, and it's worked very well. However, the last update

/var/log/yum.log.1:Nov 14 12:18:28 Updated: audacity.i386 1.2.5-3.fc5

badly broke it.

??? Just to understand this, do you say the Nov 14th 2006 update
changed behaviour? This is weird, since the Fedora 5 Audacity is at
version 1.2.x for several years. Which version of the package works
better for you?

Well... to be honest I'm not exactly sure when it broke. I should've been clear about that.

I tend to use it sporadically. I used it back in January and didn't notice any problems, and I used it last July and definitely didn't have a problem.

Here are the updates:

# grep -i audacity /var/log/yum.log*
/var/log/yum.log.1:Nov 04 14:20:46 Updated: audacity.i386 1.2.5-2.fc5
/var/log/yum.log.1:Nov 14 12:18:28 Updated: audacity.i386 1.2.5-3.fc5
/var/log/yum.log.2:Jun 09 21:05:34 Installed: audacity.i386 1.2.4-0.2.b.lvn5
/var/log/yum.log.2:Jun 21 16:24:25 Installed: audacity.i386 1.2.4-0.1.b.fc5

So I'm honestly not sure when the problem appeared.

If I generate 5 minutes of a tone and save it as a project, everything is fine. If I load 5 minutes of "real world" wav data, the lag is present.

Weird.

I have compiled 1.3.2 and it works fine. I'm just not comfortable with some aspects of 1.3.

I may try compiling 1.2.5 myself and see if that behaves any differently.
