Several thoughts: 1. Update your X packages, drop down to runlevel 3, switch back to runlevel 5, and see if that will address your problem. (I have libX11-1.0.3-7.fc6 and, most probably some other newer X packages.) 2. Check whether SELinux settings have an effect; e.g. set enforcement to permissive or off. 3. Check whether you have a script running that is preventing X from exiting properly. (Are you launching X from rc5.d?)
