You might need to play with BIOS options regarding enabling/disabling of
ACPI.  You might need to play with kernel options regarding ACPI and
APM.  Install the "kernel-doc" package, and read the kernel-parameters
file for what you can do.

less /usr/share/doc/kernel-doc*/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt

(Or find a copy on-line somewhere, and read it off the web.)
