Nope.  Any mounted filesystem must be unmounted to ensure that the
dirty caches are written to the device before the media is removed.

Well, the vestige device has little to do with not having the device
mounted.  Some devices in hotplug/udev don't get deleted so you don't
get confused on what's what.
