In my opinion the easiest way to tackle this is to open a terminal and then type 'alsamixer' (without quotes). This gives a clearer and better picture of what is going on than the gui tools. Each channel has a label and a few words about itself. Make sure that everything relevant has a reasonable volume setting. Use the arrow keys to move around. 'M' will toggle Mute. HTH Anne
