FFox 2.0 suddenly hogging all CPU resources - Java is the cause

This may not be the right place, except that several other FC6
boxes are fine. In the past few days, my work machine has
started choking on Java pages - it displays the Java icon and
the radius circling in the center, but the java applet never
loads, and eventually, FF just freezes and has to be killed.
This is FF 2.0 from the remi.repo and Java 1.5.0.08, which I
upgraded to 1.5.0.11 to no avail - Java is installed according
to the Stanton Finley instructions and has been working fine
till a few days ago. I've googled around and found the older CPU
hogging issue of some months ago, but nothing recent - I've
disabled all my FF extensions and I've even disabled Selinux,
but to no avail. Anyone else getting this?
