Jim, if you click on the Pricewatch URL you will find a US Robotics modem for under $50, http://www.upgradenation.com/US_Robotics_US_Robotic_Modem_VP2973/VP2973-A/partinfo-id-558995.html . Per the web page the modem is Linux compatible.
