Well, I decided against both of these suggestions and am going to use
MySQL instead of a file... that will be more "portable" (not that that
is really an issue)... but it really seems like a more "proper" solution.

Nothing's simple. :-)

I don't have mysql support in php....

Maybe I'll just defer this project a couple of months until FC7.... how easy is it to reinstall php so it has mysql support in it?
