RPM command stalls computer

Hi All,
I started noticing an odd situation on my notebook the other day. I did a
'yum update' and yum went to work downloading everything. The only first
sign of troubles occurred while 'rpm' was trying to upgrade / install
packages.

It said it was installing the first package and then just stayed there. It
didn't freeze as the cursor and mouse were still available for use. I
could 'Cntrl+C' to get back to the standard terminal prompt.

It seems to be solely with the 'rpm' command. The same problem occurs if I
try the command seperately. For example, rpm -ivh <some-file-name>.rpm.
The same also occurs when I try to upgrade (-U) or remove (-e) packages
from the rpm database.

I was wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on this
problem for me, as I would dearly love to update my notebook to the latest
offerings from the FC world.

Thanks heaps.

Cheers,
Tony Crouch
