Problem updating kernel with yum

A recent update to my FC5 server included an update to the kernel. When I boot with the new kernel (2.6.18-1.2257.fc5), the server's hostname does not get set and my network card is detected as something different (Intel EtherExpress/1000) than under the previous kernel (Intel 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller). With the new kernel, the server does not get its static IP address.

If I revert to the previous kernel 2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 to use the server.

The last time I ran yum, it reported updating the kernel from 2.6.19-1.2288 to 2.6.16-1-2288.2.1. This kernel is not listed on the grub screen. I am hoping this kernel has a fix to the problem I am having with 2.6.18-1.2257. How can I make 2.6.16-1-2288.2.1 available at bootup?

Steve
