Virtual console.  I.e., no boot messages on startup.  Also, no rhgb.

Good point.  See attached log for the nv driver.

(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "1280x1024" (exceeds panel dimensions)

I'll guess that the EDID in your display has bogus information about
its dimensions.
