Swappiness...

In an attempt to see what swappiness does to the performance
of my machine, I tried setting it and experimenting. Well, I
don't seem to be able to do that.

$ su -
# cd /proc/sys/vm
# cat swappiness
60
# echo 40>swappiness


# cat swappiness
60
# echo 75>swappiness


# cat swappiness
60
# uname -a
Linux Presario-1 2.6.10-1.771_FC2 #1 Mon Mar 28 00:50:14 EST 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
