I removed amarok-extras-nonfree, and with trepidation, opened amarok, and 
after a considerable time (I have a large collection), all of the mp3 files 
are there and it plays.

Thanks.

I just wish they would put all of the extras-nonfree into a single package, 
instead of us having to download one for each and every program that uses 
non-free codecs.
