I've got one of those, and have never had any trouble with it. Unfortunately, I don't have the camera with me at the moment (and I'm on x86_64 and FC6). > This hangs: > # gphoto2 --auto-detect > > These are the messages in /var/log/messages: > > Jan 13 13:53:44 dkt kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using > uhci_hcd and address 4 > Jan 13 13:53:45 dkt kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice > Jan 13 13:54:39 dkt automount[2995]: >> mount clntudp_create: RPC: > Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out > Jan 13 13:54:39 dkt automount[2995]: lookup(program): lookup for dcim > failed Jan 13 13:54:39 dkt automount[2995]: failed to mount /net/dcim > Jan 13 13:55:55 dkt automount[3030]: >> mount clntudp_create: RPC: > Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out > Jan 13 13:55:55 dkt automount[3030]: lookup(program): lookup for DCIM > failed Jan 13 13:55:55 dkt automount[3030]: failed to mount /net/DCIM > Jan 13 13:57:16 dkt kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 4 The messages between 13:54:00 and 13:57:00 look unrelated -- they seem to be network related. Did you unplug the camera at 13:57:16? If not, then you've probably got a dodgy USB connection. It looks like you've got (at least) two USB buses on your system -- are you using a different USB port to the one you used before? I hate to suggest it, but it *is* possible that either hardware or software has got confused, and powering the system off and then on again would reset things. The Canon A510 Powershot doesn't support that -- it looks to software like a camera, not a disk drive.
