I just tried "gphoto2 --auto-detect" and it also finds the camera. All I see in /var/log/messages is: Jan 13 10:52:05 fubar kernel: usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 Jan 13 10:52:05 fubar kernel: usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice It appears that the portmap service is having some problems though. It is needed for automount. I just check on the box I use for accessing my camera and it appears that portmap is dying. It could be that gthumb is finding the camera and leaving the connection on my box so that gphoto2 finds the camera and doesn't have to detect it. I'll see if I can figure out why portmap is dying. You might try enabling the port map service and trying again. I'm not seeing the port mapping timeout messages even with portmap dead.
Portmap is running here: # service --status-all | grep portmap capi not installed - No such file or directory (2) cat: /var/run/dhcdbd.pid: No such file or directory Device not specified in /etc/sysconfig/diskdump JAVA_EXECUTABLE or HSQLDB_JAR_PATH in '/etc/sysconfig/hsqldb' is set to a non-file. rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refused Server address not specified in /etc/sysconfig/netdump portmap (pid 1624) is running... # ps ax | grep portmap 1624 ? Ss 0:00 portmap 4330 pts/2 R+ 0:00 grep portmap Restarted: # service portmap restart Stopping portmap: [ OK ] Starting portmap: [ OK ] Tried gthumb but it hangs when detecting the camera. BTW in the meantime I downloaded the pictures in a Windows machine. -- Clodoaldo Pinto Neto
