troubleshooting basics question

An old PIII computer screen running FC5 went to black. Rebooted, and,over a period of minutes, time to going black got shorter and shorter.Now, no boot, just a message, "no sync input". Is that meaningful toanyone? Can you point me to some info about troubleshooting this issue?
