Not exactly what you were asking for, but here is the answer to "Ripping sound from videos with transcode":

transcode -i input.file -x input-type -T 1,-1 -a 0 -y wav -m outputfile.wav
i input
x type of input (for instance: dvd)
T title, chapter and angle to encode
a audio track
y output format
m output filename
