hello all,
here is a fresh Fedora Core 6 installation on a Compaq v2404us laptop.
The built-in wireless adapter is based on Broadcom bcm4318 chip. On a
previous installation I was using ndiswrapper with windows driver for
x86_64, but since I've heard a lot about a native driver for bcm43xx
family and decided to give it a try this time.
I have a laptop with a linksys PCMCIA card with a bcm4318 chip.
I could never get ndiswrapper to work.
The bcm43xx driver right now works without any problems, together
with wpa_supplicant and NetworkManager.
It even restarts and reconnects automatically after a hibernation.
Sometimes I see a kernel panic when NetworkManager starts. I'm
not quite sure if this is related to the kernel version, the phase
of the Moon or whatever. With the current kernel 2.6.18-1.2868.fc6
it works ok.
I could get around the panic problem by booting the machine without
the card inserted, insert the card, and do a:
/etc/init.d/network restart
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart
Maybe your problem is x86_64 related?
