Maybe have a look at the thread "Re: ffmpeg has broken, or faad or
faac?"
If you're using both freshrpms and livna then a freshrpms faad came
out ~yesterday which might have updated over the livna package.
Other than that afraid I can't help, but as you suggest it's usually
been yum updates that have cause this kind of thing to happen to
me in the past.
(Vaguely related point, I was pleased to see after installing FC6
that Yum and related tools like Pirut /are/ faster, now fast enough
to be usable.)
