There are enough problems installing Fedora
without inventing imaginary ones.

The main reason I see for getting a second drive for Linux is so that you don't have to repartition an already-partitioned Win drive. No need to shrink partitions to recover space that is already allocated, no need to run the risk of messing up a partition table. I don't think there's any operational advantage, but it can make setup easier rather than harder.
