the README at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/README suggests that the
correct location is /usr/local/lib/codecs/ (with the old location
being /usr/local/lib/win32).

unless you're installing directly from an RPM, i'd avoid putting stuff
in /usr/lib if it can just as easily go in /usr/local/lib.
