How do you build a Fedora Kernel?

I see out in the SRPMS a file kernel-2.6.18-1.2849.fc6.src.rpm
which appears to contain the patches to go from 1.6.18 to
kernel-2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 (one has to note that this file of patches is LARGER than the file that would be there if they
just gave us the patched kernel).

In any case just trying to use a for loop to apply the patches fails
(as I assumed it would) since there must be some order necessary
in applying these things.

So how do you do it? Is there a script somewhere that applies them in the correct order?

Read the "Maximum RPM" book, then read the spec file. This is not something that can be explained in one or two sentences.
