You can use an alias for your interface.
Your new interface with the new IP will be called like:
eth0:1 for example.

You can set up an alias using "ifconfig" using it like this way

ifconfig eth0:1 netmask broadcast up

And then if you makes /sbin/ifconfig you will see your "new" interface.
